I was looking through my online guide to record some stuff for after the Olympics..and I stumbled upon a true gem. The NAACP IMAGE AWARDS. Basically, the NAACP feel that although there have been several black people who have won awards along the years, and they want the chance to be created equal.....so they now have an award show SPECIFICALLY and SOLELY for African-Americans. Way to segregate yourselves from all other races. It's wonderful to know that all the fighting and taking a stand against not being allowed somewhere because of the color of your skin has all amounted to: many many different races not being allowed somewhere because of the color of their skin.
I would love to see all hell break loose if someone decided to create an awards show specifically for white people. It'd be so different then. You can't even deny it. You can't ask for special treatment if your ancestors have fought, and you have fought, for equality. You can't pick both at different times. One or the other, people.

The oscars, the emmys, the Tonys I could go on and on. If you had done your research you would have known that the NAACP awards was created after years and years of African American being overlooked and recognized by Hollywood and the afore mentioned awards.
ReplyDeleteI'm well aware of why it was created....but in order to be created equal, you can't keep setting up award shows, tv stations, radio stations, etc. etc. specifically for one race. It just defeats the whole purpose. Even Martin Luther King Jr. knew better than to exclude white/asian/hispanic/etc. from the protests and speeches and whatnot. And when he made his super-famous speech, did he not say that the focus should be on the persons character instead of the color of their skin? The NAACP is excluding white people from their award shows....no other award show or channel goes out of their way to do that. So what does that tell you about racism? It goes both ways.
ReplyDeletelooking back on this ignorant mindset that I once had is pretty sad but also goes to show that it is possible for people who were once in denial of the insidious entity that is systemic racism to actually realize that they were so very freakin wrong. I apologize to anyone who had to read this. it was very harmful speech towards an oppressed group of people that need and deserve representation and should NOT have to fight for it. #Blacklivesmatter
